Simien Mountains National Park – 5 Days

Day 1: Arrival in Gondar & Drive to Debark
Highlights: Historic Gondar, Highland Roads, Park Briefing
Arrive in Gondar and drive through rural Amhara highlands to Debark (2,800m), the gateway to the Simien Mountains. Stop for a park orientation and gear check. Overnight in Debark or nearby lodge.
Day 2: Trek to Sankaber – Cliffs & Geladas
Highlights: Gelada Baboons, Waterfalls, Endless Views
Begin your trek into the park. Walk along dramatic escarpments with views of deep valleys and cliffs. Spot large troops of Gelada baboons and enjoy the Jinbar waterfall. Overnight camping at Sankaber (3,250m).
Day 3: Trek to Geech Camp – Wilderness Plateau
Highlights: Giant Lobelias, Birds of Prey, Rolling Moorlands
Cross stunning ridgelines and open moorland. Keep an eye out for lammergeiers (bearded vultures), klipspringers, and native flora. Reach Geech Camp (3,600m) surrounded by wide plateaus.
Day 4: Imet Gogo & Chenek – Iconic Vistas
Highlights: Imet Gogo Peak, Walia Ibex (possible), Sunrise Trek
Climb early to Imet Gogo (3,926m) for one of the best panoramic views in Africa. Descend and trek to Chenek Camp (3,620m), with a chance to spot the rare Walia ibex along the escarpments.
Day 5: Return to Gondar
Highlights: Scenic Drive, Optional Historic Tour
Exit the park and return to Gondar. Optional afternoon visit to castles, churches, or local market before departure or overnight.
Bale Mountains National Park – 5 Days

Day 1: Addis Ababa to Dinsho – Into the Highlands
Highlights: Scenic Drive, Highland Wildlife
Leave Addis and head to Dinsho (3,200m), park HQ. Spot endemic species like mountain nyala, warthog, and Menelik’s bushbuck near the lodge. Evening nature walk in highland forest.
Day 2: Harenna Forest – Into the Mist
Highlights: Cloud Forest, Traditional Villages, Lush Jungle
Drive south to the magical Harenna Forest, one of Ethiopia’s last remaining cloud forests. Walk under towering trees, explore forest villages, and watch for monkeys and exotic birds.
Day 3: Sanetti Plateau – Land of the Ethiopian Wolf
Highlights: Rare Wildlife, Afro-Alpine Scenery, Birds
Traverse the otherworldly Sanetti Plateau at over 4,000m elevation. This is the best place to see the elusive Ethiopian wolf, the world’s rarest canid, as well as raptors and alpine flora.
Day 4: Tulu Dimtu Summit – High Point of the South
Highlights: Summit Views, Rugged Trails, High-Altitude Silence
Climb or drive to Tulu Dimtu (4,377m), Ethiopia’s second-highest peak. Take in 360° views of vast moorland, skies, and far-off ridges. Great for photos and a moment of stillness.
Day 5: Return to Addis Ababa
Highlights: Cultural Stops, Forest Farewell
Head back to Addis with optional detours for village visits or a stop at Lake Ziway. Arrival in the city by evening.
Danakil Depression & Erta Ale Volcano – 4 Days

Day 1: Fly to Mekele, Drive to Afdera – Desert Gateway
Highlights: Salt Lake, Afar Culture, Desert Roads
Fly to Mekele and meet your expedition crew. Drive to Lake Afdera, known for its salt mining and surreal desert landscape. Overnight in basic guesthouse or camping.
Day 2: Trek to Erta Ale – Fire Beneath Your Feet
Highlights: Night Hike, Lava Lake, Volcano Camping
Drive across dry lava fields and begin the evening ascent to Erta Ale volcano (613m). Reach the crater by night and witness the glowing lava lake. Camp on the volcano rim under the stars.
Day 3: Dallol – Colors of Another Planet
Highlights: Sulfur Springs, Salt Formations, Afar Villages
Descend early and drive to Dallol, one of the hottest inhabited places on Earth. Visit neon-colored sulfur springs, salt chimneys, and acid pools. Interact with local Afar salt miners. Overnight in simple desert camp.
Day 4: Return to Mekele – Journey’s End
Highlights: Sunrise in the Desert, Scenic Drive
Drive back across the Danakil Desert to Mekele. Arrive by late afternoon with memories of Earth’s extremes.
Abune Yosef Highlands Trek – 4 Days

Day 1: Lalibela to Ad Medhane Alem – Highland Trails Highlights: Village paths, mountain farms, scenic ascent
Begin your trek from Lalibela through terraced farmlands and quiet mountain trails. Meet locals along the way and take in the views as you gain elevation. Reach the village of Ad Medhane Alem (3,600 m) by afternoon.
Day 2: Ad Medhane Alem to Sora – Grasslands & Geladas
Highlights: Gelada sightings, rolling pastures, traditional huts
Trek through wide grasslands where gelada monkeys gather in large groups. The trail weaves through shepherd paths and scattered highland homes. Arrive in the village of Sora (3,900 m) for a warm welcome.
Day 3: Sora to Rim Ridge – Ethiopian Wolf Territory Highlights: Ridge hiking, rare wildlife, remote wilderness
Follow the high ridgelines with views stretching for miles. This is home to the endangered Ethiopian wolf and soaring lammergeiers. Hike through moorlands and lobelia groves before setting camp near the rim under a starlit sky.
Day 4: Return to Lalibela – Downward Path
Catch the sunrise from the highlands before beginning your descent. The return trail offers quiet paths through hidden valleys and farms. Arrive in Lalibela by afternoon, completing a powerful journey through the rooftop of Ethiopia.
